As this book is written, economic times are tough worldwide, and funding for scientific research is contracting.
I hardly need to emphasize that when resources become scarce, competition intensifies for
what remains available. To win a permanent position in scientific research, and the funds to carry on serious work, you will have to be exceptionally thoughtful about your career choices.
