John Wiley and IEEE Press, 2007. - 702 pages. The book offers a historical perspective of the past 30 years of technical and scientific advances in both digital video compression and transmission over hostile wireless channels. More specifically, both the entire family of video compression techniques as well as the resultant ITU and MPEG video standards are detailed. Their bitstream is protected with the aid of sophisticated near-capacity joint source and channel coding techniques. Finally, the resultant bits are transmitted using advanced near-instantaneously adaptive High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) style iterative detection aided turbo transceivers as well as their OFDM-based counterparts, which are being considered for the Third-Generation Partnership Project’s Long-Term Evolution i(3GPP LTE) initiative.
