New York; Amsterdam: Elsevier, 1976. — 307 p. — (Comparative Romance grammar 2).This pioneering work on the field of comparative phonology of the Romance languages has a good introduction to the phonemic inventory of Proto-Romance and opened the study of the comparative method, followed nowadays by important schools of Proto-Romance studies. In despite of its worthful theoretic background it is a bit deceitful regarding the archaic method of phonemic transcription; on one hand it is plentiful of errors when transcribing words of certain languages (mainly Portuguese) lacking, on the other hand, an accurate correspondence with words present in Romance languages.
