Basic terminology of such fundamental fields as Mathematics, Mechanics, Physics and Chemistry, and terms most frequently found in books and articles of a technical and scientific nature.
Technical words and expressions likely not to be found in a general Russian-English dictionary.
Terms pertaining to new fields of Science and Industry, to modern industrial equipment and recently introduced processes,—one of the compiler’s main purposes has been to make this Dictionary as up-to-date as possible.
A host of newly-coined Russian technical words and expressions originated during the period of reconstruction and “Americanization” of the Soviet industry and agriculture, as well as old Russian terms which have acquired a new, specifically technical, meaning, — “technical idioms.”The present Dictionary is not intended to replace the existing Russian-English dictionaries but rather to supplement them. In many cases words that can be found in any standard general Russian-English dictionary are omitted unless, besides their original meaning, they have some special scientific or technical connotation.
