The author of this book, Yuri Averbakh(1922-) is the oldest living grandmaster in chess. In his long and distinguished career he has won several tournaments including the USSR Championship and also participated in 1953 Candidates’ Tournament. He is an authority on the endgame with quite a few treatises to his credit.
The present collection has 60 games for his active period, 1943-1975. The opposition includes world champions, Botvinnik, Smyslov, Tal, Spassky and Fischer, not to mention grandmasters, Keres, Korchnoi and Larsen among others.
