The authors have all taught courses in radio astronomy at the undergraduate level, and although there are a number of reference books on radio astronomy available, none were found ideal for use as an undergraduate textbook. Thus we found the need to develop our own teaching material and this textbook is based on these notes and our teaching experiences. Unlike many reference books on radio astronomy, our goal is to develop an understanding in the students of the underlying principles. Toward this end we have provided the background and derivations for most of the equations used in the textbook. Although we wrote this textbook with the undergraduate student in mind, we feel these volumes will also serve graduate students who are just getting started in radio astronomy.
