Springer, 1964. — 382 p.This book was prepared for students to whom the entire subject is new and whose field study of sedimentary structures is just beginning. For the study of sedimentary structures is primarily a field study a microscope is not necessary. The student should learn that expensive and sophisticated instrumentation is not always needed to make significant observations and that field studies will yield important data. We think the Atlas will be of value also to teachers and to professional geologists. Many sedimentary structures are unfamiliar even to experienced geologists whose field activity has been largely in areas lacking some kinds of structures, such as the sole markings of turbidites, or who have worked in metamorphic terranes or with unconsolidated sediments in which the soles of beds are rarely, if ever, seen.
