Elsevier, 1979. — 472 p. — ISBN 0444003002, 9780444003003.This book is an introduction to the basic ideas and methods of operations research. A substantial portion of the book is devoted to applications, indeed, applications that have often been chosen to be as realistic as possible. This has been done to indicate the range of applicability of the methods, and to give the reader a feeling for the challenge of studying a given situation and formulating a model for it that both addresses the real issues and is mathematically tractable. At the same time, the assumptions and the inner structure of the methods have been explained as fully as possible. It is the author’s contention that for a successful application of operations research, it is important that at least one of the persons involved has a good theoretical understanding of the method being used.
