This work is the original source for many projectile point types identified with the Archaic period (8,000 - 1,000 B.C.) and is frequently cited as such by archaeologists, scholars, and collectors.Joffre L. Coe (1916-2000) professor emeritus of anthropology and former director of the Research Laboratories of Anthropology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, directed the excavations at Town Creek from 1937 until his retirement in 1987.
