This book comprises a loose collection of course notes that we've used at various times to teach an introductory course in inverse theory. It's a long way from being well-integrated but we hope that it will be useful even in its current imperfect state. We decided split this draft into two parts, the second, being devoted entirely to Monte Carlo methods, will appear at some time in the future.
