Rubino C. Reference Grammar of Ilocano
University of California, Santa Barbara , Linguistics Department, 1997. —
This dissertation provides an in-depth analysis of Ilocano, a Western Austronesian language spoken in North Luzon, Philippines. It is written in three sections,
Phonology,
Morphology, and
Syntax, and is intended for use by both linguists and those involved in Ilocano pedagogy.
Among the major contributions of the work include not only an extensive treatment of the complex morphology in the language, but also a thorough treatment of the discourse particles. The ergative/absolutive analysis is used throughout the work.
The data come from a wide variety of sources, but spoken vs. written data are clearly marked for the reader's convenience.
The author has also written the most comprehensive Ilocano dictionary available to date (publication under consideration) and has taught two Philippine languages at the Univ. of California, Santa Barbara. If you would like further information on Ilocano linguistics, please contact Carl Rubino.
