Николай Толстой. Жертвы Ялты. Тайное предательство союзников, 1944-1947 New York: IntegrMedia, 1978 На английском языкеDuring the Second World War, FDR and Churchill made a deal with Stalin. The deal involved sacrificing a number of people who had fled to the West. Tolstoy has been exposing the complicity of the West in this betrayal. Well worth a refresher if you have already read it. Well worth opening your eyes if you haven't. Tolstoy is an accomplished historian and a quite a good writer. The story he tells here is heart-breaking and infuriating. He manages to provide extensive historical background and information without letting the reader lose sight of the immense horror and sadness of the forced repatriation of so many Russians at the hands of the British. It is so easy to think that the Allies were the "good guys" in WWII, but history is never that simple and, as Tolstoy so clearly knows, by ignoring the evil done by our own nations, we make it easier for future evils to arise. Any student of modern history should read this book. Anyone with an interest in present-day politics should read this book-these are our roots; this is part of how we got to where we are now.
